The goal of integrally forming students extends to the sports programs offered at Northwoods. Our programs focus not only on the human side of an athlete's development, but also the spiritual, apostolic and intellectual as well. This is achieved by encouraging fair play, discipline, self-confidence, and prayer. As an important part of our programs, all practices and games begin and end with prayer. Unlike many other athletic programs, our sucess is not measured solely on wins and losses on the field or court, but measured in how well our athletes are prepared for the game of life, with the trophy being eternal happiness in heaven.
FOOTBALL
Under the direction of Coach Michael Blasdell (fourth grade boys teacher), the 2007-08 season saw the Knights achieve their best record to date, with five wins and four losses. The Knights football team is comprised of athletes from Northwoods, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Anne of Tomball, and St. Edward. The Knights not only celebrated a winning record, but a season of growth, discipline, self-confidence and prayer. Football is open to fifth through eighth grade boys.
SOCCER
Northwoods soccer is under the direction of Coach Darion Stofira (middle school science and algebra teacher) and is a formative program focusing on developing basic soccer skills. With the assistance of parent volunteers, the program is open to Pre-K through sixth grade boys and girls. On Mondays, the Pre-K through second grade "Kickers for Christ", can be found practicing and learning that athletics is another form of prayer. Tuesdays finds the third through sixth grade "Kickers for Christ" on the field giving glory to God with their bodies.
VOLLEYBALL
The Lady Knights enjoyed a spirited season competing against other Catholic schools in north Houston. The "Setters for Christ" are made up of fifth through eighth grade girls and led by Coach Roseann Bush, the third grade boys teacher. Coach Bush taught the ladies the basics of volleyball and the importance of integrating prayer into their athletic performance. The Lady Knights look forward to another successful season in the fall of 2008.
BASKETBALL
Coached by Michael Deem (Dean of Students and Latin teacher), the boys basketball team witnessed much growth this year. Coming off of a 0-10 record last year, the sixth grade team was the most improved with a 6-6 record this year. Coach Deem's goal is to develop the skills and discipline needed to compete at the high school level. These young men are not only coached on the basics of the game, but on the virtues of fortitude, prudence, faith, charity and reverence.
