Before and After School Care Program

Northwoods is pleased to provide a Before and After School Care Program. We understand that many working families need extended care for their children beyond the traditional school day.  This service is provided on campus for Northwood students at the beginning and end of the school day.  The staff creates a nurturing environment where the children learn mutual respect for others and build long lasting friendships. Registration
Before and After School Care forms are available throughout the year in the school lobby. Parents can register by completing the following forms:

Registration Fee
An annual, non-refundable, registration fee of $25.00 per family is due prior to enrollment into the program.

Program Hours
The Before and After School Care Program will offer extended care services for students enrolled in Northwoods Catholic School. The program runs from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. and 3:15 - 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11:15 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on the last Wednesday of each month. Study Hall is available to children everyday immediately after school. It is supervised by one of the teachers in the study hall classroom.

Morning Program
The  program is available from 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. The children must be signed in with the Before and After School Care staff. In the morning the children listen to music, draw, play board games and study.

Afternoon Program
The Pre-K and Kindergarten children are gathered by the Before and After School Care staff. They are taken to the extended care room, putting their book bags in their lockers and settled in for a fun afternoon of activities.

The older children go to Study Hall after dismissal for one hour and then they join the younger students in the extended care room. Free play or structured arts are available for them at this time.

We have a variety of toys and activities that are appropriate for all ages. They include dress up clothes, cars and trucks, building blocks, dolls, doll houses, toy foods, pretend kitchen set up, books, puzzles and board games. Outdoor play is available every day except in bad weather. The children are supervised while they play on the playground equipment and during group games and relays.

Your child will receive snacks consisting of water, juice, crackers, cheese, fruit, vegetables, ice cream and cookies. For the most part we do not have many sweets. The children wash their hands and say a prayer before the snack.

On Fridays we have the usual play but for the last hour they have popcorn and watch a movie.

Cost
Fees are based on a monthly rate. Payment must be made in advance prior to your child’s attendance. A hard copy invoice will be sent home in your child’s backpack and an electronic copy will be emailed to you a week before services are needed. All payments must be made to the school office. A late charge of $15.00 may be added after the 5th of the month. Before and After School Care Program payments not received in the office by the 15th of each month will result in the student being withdrawn from the program.

Morning Program Rates:

5 days a week program
Regular Rate:         $100.00 per month
Discounted Rate*:    $ 85.00 per month

*Available when automated monthly Credit Card Payments have been established. (Credit card authorization form must be completed and returned with registration form, medical form and registration fee.)     

Afternoon Program Rates:

5 days a week program
Regular Rate:            $220.00 per month - First child
                                       $200.00 per month – Each additional child

Discounted Rate*:    $200.00 per month – First child$180.00
                             $180.00 per month - Each additional child

3 days a week program
Regular Rate:          $135.00 per month – First child
                                  $125.00 per month – Each additional child

Discounted Rate*:   $120.00 per month – One Child
                            $110.00 per month – Each additional child

Discounted Rate: Available when automated monthly Credit Card Payments have been established. (Credit card authorization form must be completed and returned with registration form, medical form and registration fee.)


To ensure that your child holds his or her spot in the program, once you have registered your child for the 5 day, 3 day and or the morning program, the above fees will be due whether your child attends every day or not.

Returned Checks
There is a $25.00 charge for checks returned due to insufficient funds. If a check is returned, future payments will need to be in the form of a cashier’s check, money order or credit card.

Late Pickup
ALL CHILDREN MUST BE PICKED UP BY 6:00 p.m. A fee of $1.00 per minute per child for late pickup will be charged at the time services are rendered. Being late repetitively may be grounds for removal from the program.

Disenrollment
A parent or guardian may withdraw their child from the Before and After School Care Program at any time. The required notice time is two weeks. Failure to follow guidelines, policies, or rules may also be grounds for withdrawal from the program.

After-School Enrichment
Options for after-school enrichment may include chess, golf, science, karate, gymnastics, sports, dance, piano lessons, sign language, and math club. After-school enrichment activities are coordinated through the Before and After School Program. The programs are scheduled on different days allowing students to take one or more. Instructors for these programs come from the local area to the school and range from one-half hour to one hour sessions. Billing for their students is done by the individual instructors, but the initial contact and set up will be done by the Before and After School Care Coordinator prior to the start date of the program.

Child Release
When picking up a child from the Before and After School Program, the parent/guardian or other pre-authorized adult must record the time and sign the child out for safety and accountability purposes. The student is also required to initial the sign-out form stating whether or not his or her homework for the day is complete. Before 4:00 p.m. the parent/guardian or other pre-authorized persons must come inside to pick up their child unless they have other children in the car or something of that nature. After 4:00 p.m. the front doors will be locked. You will need to call the Before and After School Care phone at 281-536-4835 and the student will be escorted to the front to be signed out. If a child has not been picked up by the 6:00 p.m. closing time, contacts will be called. If you are going to be late please notify the Before and After School Care staff.

Medication Policy
The school nurse needs to dispense any medication to a child before he or she comes to the after school program. The Before and After School Care staff will not administer any prescription or nonprescription drugs for any reason. Please notify the school nurse if your child is ill with a communicable disease.

Medical Emergency
If there is an incident requiring medical treatment, you will be notified immediately. If you cannot be reached, we will contact the person listed on your emergency contact list. If we cannot reach anyone or if it is an emergency, EMS will be called. The EMS will determine if your child is to be transported to a hospital emergency room.
